The Chariot: Will That Moves Forward

You’ve felt it when the road ahead looked uncertain but your hands stayed steady on the wheel and you kept moving anyway. Not because everything was clear. Not because fear had vanished. Because something deeper said keep going and you listened.

She was twenty-eight and the move across the country felt like driving into fog. No job lined up no apartment secured just a one-way ticket a packed car and a quiet knowing that staying put would cost more than leaving. The first night on the road the rain came down so hard the wipers could barely keep up. Doubt crept in loud and familiar. She pulled over at a rest stop sat in the dark with the engine running and cried for ten minutes. Then she wiped her face started the car again and kept driving. By morning the sky had cleared the road stretched wide and she felt the wheel under her hands not as control but as direction. She arrived in the new city tired but alive. The chariot had carried her not because the path was easy but because she chose to hold the reins.

That’s The Chariot. Number seven. The vehicle of focused will the triumph of movement through opposites. The driver stands in a stone chariot two sphinxes—one black one white—pulling in different directions yet moving as one. Stars crown his head armor glints the canopy overhead. He doesn’t whip the beasts. He guides them with stillness and intention. The river flows behind him the city waits ahead. The spark has remembered it can harness contradiction and direct it forward.

In the quiet of the ridge The Chariot arrives when life pulls in opposite directions—wanting safety and adventure duty and freedom heart and mind—and you decide to move anyway. You’ve felt it when you balanced conflicting parts of yourself and kept going when you set a goal and let willpower carry you through resistance when you chose momentum over paralysis. It reminds you that victory isn’t the absence of conflict. It’s the choice to move through it with centered will.

Upright The Chariot is that forward motion made sovereign. Discipline focus determination victory through alignment. The sphinxes pull together because the driver holds the center. You’ve felt it when you overcame obstacles not by fighting them but by channeling their energy when you said yes to the journey even when the map was incomplete when you arrived somewhere new because you refused to stay stuck. The crown of stars reminds you the guidance comes from above the armor protects without hardening the heart.

Reversed the chariot still exists but the direction falters. Maybe opposites pull too hard and the vehicle stalls maybe willpower feels scattered or forced maybe old patterns of avoidance keep the wheels spinning in place. The Chariot reversed whispers to find the center again. Realign the will without forcing the sphinxes. Notice where resistance lives—perhaps in fear of failure perhaps in trying to control every detail. The momentum hasn’t disappeared. It waits for the moment you soften your grip and steer from quiet certainty.

Either way the chariot is built for movement. It waits for the will that says forward.

A gentle action prompt

Find a quiet space today. Close your eyes and invite two opposing parts of yourself to sit together—the part that wants to play and the part that wants to plan the part that feels too much and the part that shuts down. Ask them what they both need to feel safe in the same room. Listen without judging. Let them speak to each other.

And a folly prompt for laughter

Sit in your car (or pretend in a chair) grip an imaginary steering wheel make engine noises and “drive” around your living room swerving dramatically around imaginary obstacles. Declare triumphantly “Victory is mine!” when you “park.” The sphinxes approve of a little theatrical flair.

The Chariot doesn’t promise the road will be straight or smooth. It promises that when you center your will and move the opposites learn to pull together and the destination draws nearer.

And you’ve felt it before that steady hand on the wheel that knew forward was the only true direction.
